Folk lives! Come and see for yourself on Saturday 11 August in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall. Our effort is to show folk in all its beauty, as a bottomless well of inspiration. From genre overlaps, through authentic tone to the unbridled glee of children’s ensembles. Halfway through the Marathon it will be necessary to draw on fresh energy. The folk temperament will get directly into your blood. Singing and dancing permitted!
We begin with a moderately famous virtuoso cimbalom duo, via the mighty voices of singers from Kyjov to the raw music of the Moravian-Slovakian borderlands. The whole programme will be presented by the legendary Ladislav Čumba.
The Spěváks’ private and professional paths are linked by the cimbalom. This renowned duo opens the programme. They will show us how classical music sounds on an instrument that most of us connect with folk music. However we can also reveal that even in this case we can also look forward to minor excursions into the world of folk.
Vlastimil Ondra with Family and Guests
A teacher, the head of ensembles and mainly an excellent singer and musician in body and soul, who has already awoken a love of folk music in many children and adults. He is inseparably linked to the mountainous region around Bánov and Nivnice. He will be appearing at the Music Marathon with his no less gifted family.
Male Voice Choir from Kyjov
The cimbalom player Jura Petrů from a legendary musical family will be presenting his choir. Strong male voices are in themselves breath-taking, but heartfelt joy from signing together is an added value that brings enchanted smiles to faces.
DFS Dyjavánek from Znojmo
A children’s ensemble with a tradition stretching back more than 30 years will perform from their colourful repertoire for us. Both cimbalom music ensembles and all the dance groups from the youngest to older schoolchildren will be presented.
CM Vojtěcha Konečného
Gifted young musicians who met in Brno while studying and discovered that they enjoy playing together. Their imaginative and quality interpretation of mot just Slovak folk ends the afternoon programme of Music Marathon 2018 for us. If you want to sing and dance along, don’t be shy.
HM Petra Mičky
and Guests …
Both of the musicians performing for us in the main evening programme try to interpret folk music in the most faithful and truthful way. During the evening they will present to us the distinctive regions of the Moravian-Slovakian borderlands, hidden in the hills and valleys of the White Carpathians. At least in the medium of song ĽH Poľana and HM Petra Mičky lead us from the blooming scented meadows of Kopanice, via Horňácko through to Myjava.
